Collections
Throughout
the year there is a weekly collection of food which the church donates
to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
In
addition, there is an ongoing collection of children
and adults books for Quest Bookstore's “Books Behind Bars” program.
This program provides books for those who are incarcerated across
the commonwealth of Virginia.
During
the holiday season the congregation in recent years has collected
stamps, greeting cards and stationery as well as bags of toiletries
for those incarcerated at Fluvanna Women's Correctional Center.
Sojourners has participated in a local drive to collect school supplies
for area children for many years. Recently Sojourners has partnered
with another local church to purchase bookbags and fill them with
requested supplies for children at Clark Elementary School located
just a few blocks from the church.
Special
offerings are received through the United Church of Christ. Neighbors
in Need is received in the fall and is devoted to advocacy and social
justice work in the United States. One Great Hour of
Sharing is received in the spring for disaster relief and development
work throughout the world. In addition Strengthen the Church Special
Mission Offering is held in the spring.
