Millie
Fife -
Church administrator
Millie
was born and raised in Charlottesville. She graduated from Piedmont
Virginia Community College and the University of Virginia with a
BA in English. She has been a bartender, restaurant owner, and worked
as a researcher at UVa. Raised an Episcopalian she found her way
to Sojourners in 2001, became a member in 2004 and has been on staff
since early 2005. She feels blessed to be part of such a diverse
and supportive faith community as both a member and an employee.
Archie
Thornton – Cleaning contractor
Archie
received his education in public schools in Danville , VA and Virginia
State College in Petersburg . After two years serving in the army
as a sergeant he moved to Washington , D.C. where he worked with
the Civil Service Commission, H.E.W. (Health, Education and Welfare)
and then with the army as a civilian. Archie managed an army reserve
center in Riverdale, MD; served as a warrant officer; the personnel
officer of his reserve unit; and as an EEO (Equal Employment Officer)
counselor.
During
his time in D.C. he was a member of Plymouth United Church of Christ.
After moving to Charlottesville he discovered there was no UCC in
the Charlottesville area. As one of the founders of the church that
became Sojourners, Archie encouraged the group to establish an affiliation
with the United Church of Christ because he had a several year connection
of service with the UCC Central Atlantic Conference and the national
United Church of Christ. He has also served on the board of Hoffman
Homes for children.
