Sojourners joins the Poor People’s Campaign

Please join us as we join with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival and work to change the systems that harm the poor and oppressed, as well as everyone else, and break down the barriers that divide us.  Please spread the word far and wide – invite your friends, family, colleagues – our hope is to bring together as many of our sisters and brothers, and meet new friends as we bear witness and continue our journey toward justice for all.

Weekly events:

Sunday evening Livestream – although we are not hosting the Sunday evening watch parties at this point, we encourage you to tune in and watch the livestream wherever you happen to be on Sunday evenings beginning at 6 p.m.  The Sunday evening Mass Meetings are designed to prepare for the coming week’s action, generally an introductory time of singing and readings, then witness by impacted individuals (either live or via video) and the call to action by Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis and Rev. Dr. William Barber.  Go to www.poorpeoplescampaign.org, and under the “actions” tab drop-down menu, click on “watch live.”

Monday Witness (to coincide with the day of national action by the PPC)

Raise awareness and spread the word – come to hold signs and stand for justice – make your own signs, bring the ones you already have, or use the ones being made each week at the church.  Time frame is 4:30-6:30 p.m. – in order to catch the after work traffic on our blessedly busy corner in Belmont!  If that time frame does not work for you but you’d like to participate – grab a friend or two (or ten) and if you need signs, we will have some. Come for 10 minutes or the whole time – an opportunity to get to know  Sojourners and hopefully others who will begin to join us.  Bring a hat, some water, and a chair – or borrow a stool or folding chair from the church – or sit on the bus stop bench.

Rally in Support of the Poor People’s Campaign – Join us on Saturday, June 23 from 12-3 (or any part of that time frame) to stand for justice in conjunction with the Poor People’s Campaign’s “Global Day of Solidarity and Sending Forth – Call to Action Mass Rally” in Washington, D.C. (currently scheduled from 10 am – 1 pm). We will join together in Charlottesville to promote justice by standing with signs as witness on our street corner, offering a space for prayer in the sanctuary and/or on the street, view the rally events in DC via livestream, as well as a slideshow with pictures from the 1958 Poor People’s Campaign and the 2018 Poor People’s Campaign:  A National Call for Moral Revival.  This is a family friendly event including children’s activities and refreshments.  Bring a sign, come and make a sign – or pick up one of the signs already made to stand for justice.  Invite others in your neighborhoods, family, communities to join us as we stand for justice!
