This year Lent began on Valentine’s Day/February 14 and Easter is on April Fools’ Day/ April 1. Our theme reflects the irony of these two days bookending the holy season of Lent and Easter. Such is the humor of God.
In the past Sojourners have gathered on Wednesday evenings for special programs during Lent. While this did not happen last year, we are inviting you into a journey of spiritual practice this year. Instead of Wednesday evening…you are encouraged to come and experience Thursday evening Vespers/Evening Prayer that is hosted every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. During Lent you will hear a reflection from someone in our community during the service. Each week someone will bring a symbol that represents God’s love as they understand that and then share one foolish thing they would be willing to do for God.
Lent is a time for adding on a spiritual practice. Some people designate a day of fasting during their week. Some people eliminate a certain food from their diet. Some are intentional about a volunteer opportunity or they explore a variety of methods of prayer. While individual practice is very good for our own faith formation…gathering for a communal experience is also enriching for the journey.
